This treatment is used for biological control of juvenile snails in garden areas. It works when applied to moist soil or surfaces that snails move across and can also reach pests that shelter close to the ground or around pots when conditions are damp.

Garden Control For Juvenile Snails

This product focuses on soil and the surfaces that snails travel across, which differs from treatments aimed specifically at slug control. Snails often rest on pots, stems, shaded walls and lower foliage, so application is directed onto these areas as well as the soil. This helps ensure contact when snails move close to the ground in moist conditions.

Application Conditions And Timing of Snail Nematodes

Moisture is required for the nematodes to move and reach their target. Apply during warmer months or after rainfall when snails travel across soil or lower foliage. Watering the area before and after application helps create a film of moisture. Apply in the evening or on cloudy days to reduce drying.

Please note: this is a live product with an expiry date of around two weeks and is non returnable. Use the whole pack before the expiry date.

How To Use Snail Nematodes

Use the entire pack for best results.

  1. Empty the full packet into 4 litres of water and stir continuously to create a stock solution. Once mixed, this must be used within 4 hours.
  2. Measure 0.5 litres of the stock solution and dilute it with 4.5 litres of water in a separate bucket, stirring continuously.
  3. Pour the diluted 5 litre solution into a watering can. One full watering can treats 5 square metres.
  4. Repeat the dilution process until all stock solution has been used, then water the treated area again using a watering can or hosepipe.

Soil And Surface Treatment Guidance

Use a watering can or fine spray to reach soil and surfaces that snails travel across. Alternatively, a nematode applicator can be used for controlled application. Snails often shelter on stems, leaves, pots or shaded walls, so treating these lower areas helps improve contact. Some snails with thicker shells or those that climb may respond less, so combining with other control methods may help.

This product does not affect pollinators, birds or mammals and is safe to use where pets and children play. It can also be used around edible crops with no waiting period required after application.

Frequently asked questions

Do snails that climb get treated?

Snails that climb or rest higher above the soil may be harder to reach, so focus treatment on soil and lower plant zones.

Is this applied differently from slug treatments?

Yes, this treatment is applied to soil and also directed at lower surfaces such as pots, stems, shaded walls, and foliage because snails often rest and travel across these areas. Slugs tend to remain in the soil or surface layer, whereas snails regularly shelter on raised surfaces, so targeting these zones helps improve contact when conditions are damp.

When should this be applied?

Apply during warmer months or after rainfall when snails are most active near the ground.

Does moisture matter?

Yes, movement relies on moisture, so the treated area should be kept damp before and after use.

Can a watering can be used?

Yes, a watering can or fine spray helps reach soil and surfaces that snails travel over.

Can this be combined with other controls?

Yes, combining with other barriers or snail traps can help reach pests that are harder to contact.

How To Use

Storage & Handling

Nematodes should be stored as soon as possible after delivery. They can be stored in the fridge or below 5°C until the expiry date on the package.

Do not freeze or expose to high temperatures. Minimum soil temperature for application: 5°C.

When to Apply

The soil should be moist and should be kept moist for three to four weeks after application. Apply in the evening when snails are most active. Water immediately after application.

If you are applying over plants, water the plants within 30 minutes of application to wash the nematodes off the leaves and back onto the soil. Also apply under and around pots, under foliage and in moist shaded areas where snails can be found.

Please note: This nematode is only effective against juvenile snails.

Application

Apply the nematodes with a watering can fitted with a coarse 14mm rose or a sprayer. If using a sprayer, remove all filters finer than 1.4mm mesh. Spray using a maximum pressure of 5 bar through nozzles at least 0.5mm.

How to Use

Use the entire pack.

1. Make a stock solution by emptying the whole packet into 4L of water and stir continuously. Once mixed, this solution must be used within 4 hours.

2. Take 0.5L of the stock solution and pour into a separate bucket, then mix with 4.5L of water, stirring continuously.

3. Move the 5L solution from the bucket into a watering can. One watering can will treat 5m².

4. Repeat this process until all the stock solution has been used, then water the treated area with the watering can or a hosepipe.
