Fungus gnat nematodes are a natural method to reduce tiny flies around indoor plant pots. These microscopic organisms, Steinernema feltiae, are watered into compost or soil where they actively search for and destroy fungus gnat larvae. This interrupts the breeding cycle and helps protect plant roots from damage.

Helps Reduce Fungus Gnat Flies In The Soil

Fungus gnats often appear in greenhouses, conservatories or houseplant containers. While adult flies don’t harm plants, the larvae live in compost and feed on roots and organic material, weakening plants over time. These nematodes are introduced to the soil where the larvae are most active, helping reduce their numbers before they mature.

Suitable For Indoor Use Around Plants, Pets And People

This product can be used safely around edible crops, pets, and children. Apply to pots growing herbs, fruit or vegetables indoors or outdoors during warmer months. There's no waiting period before harvesting after application, making it ideal for edible plant setups.

Easy Application To Compost Or Potting Soil

Mix the contents of the pack with water and apply evenly over moist compost. The nematodes move through the soil in search of larvae. One treatment covers up to 12m². For ongoing results, reapply regularly in warmer months or in spaces where fungus gnats tend to return.

Frequently Asked Questions for Fungus Gnat Nematodes

What are fungus gnat nematodes and how do they work?

Fungus gnat nematodes are microscopic beneficial organisms (Steinernema feltiae) that naturally target and kill fungus gnat larvae living in the soil of indoor and potted plants. They help stop tiny flying gnats by breaking the breeding cycle at the root level.

How do fungus gnats harm indoor plants?

Fungus gnat larvae feed on organic matter and plant roots in the soil, which can lead to weakened growth, yellowing leaves, and poor plant health — especially in seedlings or young plants.

Are fungus gnat nematodes safe for use around pets and children?

Yes, these nematodes are completely safe for use in homes with pets and children. They contain no chemicals and pose no harm to humans, animals, or beneficial insects.

Can I use fungus gnat nematodes on edible plants and herbs?

Absolutely. Fungus gnat nematodes can be used on potted herbs, fruit, and vegetables. There’s no need to delay harvesting after applying them.

When is the best time to apply nematodes for fungus gnat control?

Indoors, nematodes can be applied year-round. Outdoors, they’re best used between April and August when fungus gnats are most active. Reapply as needed in warm or humid conditions.

How do I apply fungus gnat nematodes to my plants?

Mix the nematodes with water and pour directly onto moist compost or soil. Focus on the top layer of the potting mix where larvae live and feed.

How much area does one pack of fungus gnat nematodes treat?

One pack treats up to 12 square metres, making it ideal for treating multiple indoor pots, planters, conservatories, or greenhouse trays.

Do I need to change my plant care routine after applying nematodes?

You can continue regular watering and care. However, reducing overwatering and improving drainage will enhance effectiveness and prevent future gnat problems.

What are the signs of a fungus gnat infestation in houseplants?

Look for small black flies hovering around the soil surface and signs of larvae in the top layer of moist soil. Damage to roots may cause wilting or stunted growth.

Can I combine fungus gnat nematodes with sticky traps?

Yes, yellow sticky traps are a great companion to nematodes. Traps catch adult gnats while nematodes target the larvae, offering complete control above and below the surface.

How often should I reapply fungus gnat nematodes?

Reapply every few weeks or as needed, especially in warm, humid indoor environments where gnats tend to thrive.
