Sciarid Fly Nematodes (Fungus Gnat) Treats 12 sq.m
Sciarid Fly Nematodes (Fungus Gnat) Treats 12 sq.m is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Sciarid fly also known as fungus gnat or compost fly is a frequent pest in houseplants greenhouses and conservatories. Sciarid fly nematodes Steinernema feltiae provide a natural method for reducing this pest in soil based growing areas.
How Sciarid Fly Larvae Affect Soil and Why Nematodes Help
The larvae of the sciarid fly feed on plant roots and young seedlings which can lead to poor growth or plant loss. When introduced to moist soil these nematodes locate the larvae and begin reducing the number of sciarid flies present.
How Sciarid Fly Nematodes Work in Soil to Target Fungus Gnat Larvae
Sciarid fly nematodes are microscopic soil dwelling organisms that naturally target fungus gnat larvae. Mix the nematodes with water and apply the solution to areas where fungus gnats are active. Once in the soil the nematodes move through the moisture seeking out larvae.
What Happens When Nematodes Enter Sciarid Fly Larvae
When a nematode finds a larva it enters through tiny openings such as the mouth or breathing points. Inside it releases bacteria that cause the larva to die within one to two days. The nematodes then feed on the bacteria and the dead larva allowing them to develop and multiply.
The Ongoing Cycle of Nematode Activity in Moist Soil
After reproducing new nematodes leave the dead larva and continue to search for more larvae. This cycle repeats while the soil stays moist and larvae remain present.
Supporting Sciarid Fly Control with Yellow Sticky Traps
Use yellow sticky traps to help catch adult sciarid flies and reduce breeding.
Coverage and Timing for Using Sciarid Fly Nematodes
Treats 12 sq.m
Application time: April to August or all year indoors on houseplants.
How to Apply Sciarid Fly Nematodes to Soil
How to apply: Apply to moist soil and water in. You may use a watering can with a coarse rose head or a hose end applicator for larger spaces. Full instructions are supplied with the nematodes.
How Often Sciarid Fly Nematodes Should Be Applied
Frequency of application: Repeat applications are needed to maintain control of the pest.
Important Information About Live Nematode Products

How To Use
How To Use
Nematodes should be used as soon as possible after deliver. They should be stored between 4 to 8 degrees Celsius (fridge) until the expiry date on the package (usually around two weeks). Do not freeze or expose to high temperatures.
The soil should be moist for two weeks. Apply in the evening, when overcast or during rainfall. The soil temperature must be above 8 degrees for at least several hours per day. Water immediately after application.
Apply the nematodes with a watering can or sprayer. Appy between March - October. Can be used outside these dates if used inside or in a greenhouse.
Application instructions:
1. Fill up a small container (ideally a jug) with 200ml of water. Slowly pour the nematodes into the water whilst stirring the solution to ensure all lumps are dissolved. Rinse the inside of the pack as nematodes often cling to the packaging.
2. Fill up a container with 1 litre of water and slowly pour in the 200ml solution whilst stirring. You now have your concentrated solution.
3. Fill up a container with 5.4 litres of water and add half of the concentrated solution (600ml). You now have 6 litres of the diluted solution which will treat 6sq.m. Apply this to the area you want to treat.
4. Repeat step 3 to cover the remaining 6sq.m.
