Cleaning your greenhouse is a yearly job that massively helps plant health. Light is essential, and grime blocks more of it than you’d think. Because most of us focus on seedlings and foliage, the structure itself often gets ignored.
Why and When to Clean Your Greenhouse
Regular interior cleaning also cuts pests and disease, so it’s smart to do it in early spring or autumn when the house is fairly empty.
How to Clean the Greenhouse Interior
Move plants to a sheltered spot, sweep floors and ledges, then mix warm water with a natural citrus greenhouse cleaner. Soak tools and empty pots in the solution while you wipe down glazing, benches and frames. Check for cracked panes and tired seals as you go. Rinse with clean water, let everything dry, then bring plants back in.
Cleaning Exterior Glass
Outside glass gathers moss and dirt quickly. Use an extendable cleaning pole set or long-handled squeegee instead of ladders. Wash with hot soapy water, then finish with a sponge or soft mop. Keep an eye out for cracked panes. Clean inside and out to maximise light transmission.
Using a Natural Greenhouse Cleaner
A natural citrus greenhouse cleaner is safe for regular use, made from citrus extracts, and won’t harm plants — ideal for tools, pots, birdbaths and greenhouse surfaces.
How to Use Citrus Cleaner
Each bottle makes up to 20 litres. Dilute at 25 ml per litre of water. Remove loose dirt first, then apply until surfaces are wet. For small items, immerse for 10–15 minutes before rinsing. Use weekly in warm weather and monthly in colder months to keep everything fresh.
