Protect your lawn from leatherjacket damage with this highly targeted nematode treatment. Leatherjackets are the larvae of crane flies (daddy-long-legs) and feed on grass roots, leading to thinning grass, yellow patches, and weak lawns. This treatment uses natural nematodes to manage leatherjacket infestations without chemicals, offering peace of mind for families and pet owners.

Apply when adult crane flies are visible, usually in late summer. Eggs hatch within two weeks, so early treatment is essential. The microscopic nematodes penetrate the larvae, stopping them before they cause further damage to the lawn. Suitable for use in UK climates.

When to Apply Leatherjacket Nematodes in the UK

The ideal time to apply nematodes is from late August through to October, when leatherjackets are hatching and actively feeding. Treatment can also be carried out in Spring if signs of damage continue. Apply to moist soil when temperatures are above 10ºC (50ºF), and keep the soil damp for at least two weeks for best results.

Nematodes are unaffected by a light frost and can continue working even with fluctuating temperatures. They are supplied with full instructions and can be applied using a watering can or a nematode applicator. Ensure soil does not dry out post-application for effective pest control.

Nematodes are Safe for Pets, Children and Wildlife

This leatherjacket lawn treatment is a biological solution using live nematodes, not chemicals. It is completely safe to use in areas accessed by children, pets, and wildlife. There is no need to keep anyone off the lawn after application. Nematodes are a natural part of soil ecosystems and will not harm beneficial insects or animals.

How to Identify Leatherjackets in Your Lawn

Leatherjackets appear worm-like, grey-brown, and legless compared to chafer grubs which are white, C-shaped with orange heads and six legs. Signs of an infestation include thinning grass, yellow patches, and grass that pulls up easily from the soil. Treat as soon as adult crane flies are seen, to catch larvae before they feed aggressively.

This product includes live nematodes for leatherjacket control, with instructions. Apply with a watering can or applicator to moist soil. Delivery is free for nematode-only orders. Due to being a live product, nematodes are non-returnable and typically have a two-week shelf life from dispatch.
