Our vine weevil nematodes contain Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, a natural biological control that helps you manage vine weevil by targeting the damaging vine weevil larvae in the soil.

Adult vine weevils feed on leaves while the grubs attack plant roots, especially in container grown plants and fruit. These microscopic nematodes actively seek out larvae, penetrate them and multiply inside, stopping the pest before it destroys your plants.

How Vine Weevil Nematodes Work Against Vine Weevil Larvae

When applied to the soil, vine weevil nematodes move through the root zone searching for larvae. Once they find a host, they feed inside the larva, preventing it from feeding further. The nematodes then reproduce and spread naturally in the soil, giving long lasting control against vine weevil larvae populations.

When To Apply Vine Weevil Nematodes For Best Results

Vine weevil larvae are most active in late spring and early autumn, making March to May and August to October the key treatment windows. Applications work when the soil temperature is consistently above 12ºC. If applying under cover in pots or containers, you can use vine weevil nematodes at any time of year as long as the soil remains warm enough.

How To Apply Vine Weevil Killer Nematodes To Soil

Mix the nematodes with water and apply directly around the roots where larvae are feeding. Ensure the soil is moist before and after treatment to help the nematodes move through the soil. Applications can be made both in pots and open ground to break the pest life cycle. Reapply in the recommended seasons for continued protection.

More Information

Our nematodes are manufactured in a different way to other nematodes.

The standard nematode is made from a gel formulation which requires more water and results in the overall size/mass of each pack being larger.

Our nematodes are naturally formulated which means the overall mass/size is smaller however the content of nematodes are still the same.
