Most crops can be affected by aphids, which cause damage in three main ways:

Aphids suck sap from plants, weakening them. They excrete sticky honeydew, which encourages sooty mould. Some species spread plant viruses, causing distorted and stunted growth.

Larvae of predators feed on over 60 species of aphids, including those common in UK field and greenhouse crops.

Predators are introduced as cocoons, from which adults emerge. Adults lay eggs near aphid colonies, attracted by the scent of honeydew.The larvae, which appear as small orange maggots, feed on aphids. A single larva can survive on 5 large aphids but may kill 35 or more in total.

Apply between April and September to allow natural recycling of predator generations. They can also be used year-round if supplementary lighting is provided.

Dose rate:

1 individual per 1 m²

For local hotspots increase the rate up to 10 per 1 m².

Climatic conditions required:

Optimum temperature range for Aphidoletes is 15-27°C

Humidity levels of 20-80% are optimum

Use within 18 hours of delivery.
